Asklet vs behaviour analytics suites
Heatmap and session-recording suites show what people do. A single question tells you what they think - without tracking them.
Behaviour analytics tools such as Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, PostHog and Mouseflow record what visitors do: where they click, how far they scroll and where they leave. Heatmaps add up those clicks for a page, and session recordings replay single visits. Some also include surveys or a feedback widget.
They show what happened, not why. A heatmap can tell you that most visitors stop scrolling halfway down a guide, but not whether they found the answer or gave up. They also need a tracking script that records every visit, which usually means cookies, a consent banner and an entry in your privacy policy.
Asklet does only the asking. One short question on the page, such as "Did this guide answer your question?", gives you the reason behind the numbers. It stores only the answer, the page path and a timestamp, with no cookies, so it needs no consent banner. You can run both: a behaviour tool on a few key flows, and Asklet on every article.
| Behaviour analytics suites | Asklet | |
|---|---|---|
| Answers the question | What did visitors do? | What did they think? |
| What it adds to your site | A tracking script | One lazy-loaded iframe |
| Cookies & consent banner | Usually required | No cookies, no identifiers |
| Data collected | Clicks, scrolls, sessions | Only the answers and the page path |
| Setup | Script, consent, configuration | Paste a snippet, pick a survey |

Common questions
Does Asklet track clicks or record sessions?
No. It stores only the answers, the page path and a timestamp - no IP addresses, user agents or cookies.
Heatmaps or surveys: which should I use?
Use heatmaps and session recordings to see where people click, scroll and drop off. Use a short survey to learn why, or whether the page helped them. The two answer different questions, so they work well together.
Do heatmap tools need cookie consent?
Under EU rules, consent is needed when a tool stores or reads information on the visitor's device that isn't strictly necessary, which heatmap and session recording scripts usually do. Check each tool's documentation, and your own adviser, for your setup. Asklet sets no cookies, so its widget needs no consent.
Can I use Asklet with Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity?
Yes. They don't get in each other's way: the behaviour tool records visits, and Asklet asks its question in its own iframe.
