A Microsoft Clarity alternative that asks visitors why
Clarity shows what visitors did: where they clicked, how far they scrolled, where they left. Asklet asks them why, with a short question on the page. You can run both.
Microsoft Clarity is a free behaviour analytics tool. Its tracking code records sessions and builds click, scroll and area heatmaps, and Copilot in Clarity summarises what it found. As of October 2026, its documentation describes no on-page surveys or feedback questions.
So Clarity tells you what happened. Visitors scrolled past the pricing table, clicked a heading that isn't a link, or left halfway down a guide. It can't tell you what they were thinking. Asklet asks them, with "Did this page answer your question?" on the guide or "What is stopping you?" on the pricing page.
We run Clarity on this marketing site ourselves, next to Google Analytics, to see where visitors get stuck. It doesn't run inside the Asklet widget, the dashboard or the sign-in pages. When a recording shows someone stalling, the answers in the widget often explain why. If you already use Clarity, keep it and add Asklet to the pages where the recordings raise questions.

Common questions
Does Microsoft Clarity have surveys?
As of October 2026, no. Clarity's documentation covers recordings, heatmaps, dashboards, Copilot and integrations, but no on-page surveys or feedback widgets. To ask visitors a question you need a separate tool such as Asklet.
Can I use Asklet and Microsoft Clarity together?
Yes, and they don't overlap. Clarity records what visitors do and Asklet stores what they answer. We use both on our own marketing site. The two don't share data: Asklet doesn't read Clarity's recordings and doesn't send answers to it.
Does Microsoft Clarity need a cookie banner?
Clarity sets cookies that store a pseudonymous ID, and Microsoft's documentation says that since 31 October 2025 Clarity needs a consent signal for visits from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Check Clarity's documentation for your setup; this isn't legal advice. The Asklet widget sets no cookies and no identifiers.
What is the difference between heatmaps and surveys?
A heatmap adds up where visitors click and how far they scroll. A survey asks them a question and records the answer. One shows behaviour, the other gives reasons. For heatmap and session recording tools as a category, see our behaviour analytics comparison.
What are the alternatives to Microsoft Clarity?
For heatmaps and recordings, the main alternatives are other behaviour analytics suites, such as Hotjar (now part of Contentsquare). Asklet is not one of them: it adds the part Clarity leaves out, which is asking visitors what they think.
Is there a free alternative to Microsoft Clarity?
Clarity is already free, and Asklet doesn't do heatmaps or recordings, so it isn't a like-for-like swap. For short questions on your pages, Asklet has a Free plan for one website, and you can run it next to Clarity.
How do I add Asklet next to Clarity?
Create a survey, add your website and list the domains it runs on, then paste the Asklet snippet on the pages where Clarity shows people stalling. Nothing changes in your Clarity setup.
