Feedback surveys

Feedback surveys: questions answered

What a feedback survey is, an example you can copy, and how to build one people actually finish.

What is a feedback survey?

A feedback survey is a short set of questions that asks people what they think of something - a product, a service, a page or an article - so you can learn what works and what to improve.

Feedback surveys can be sent by email after an experience or shown on a page during it. Shown in context, they are shorter and get far more answers.

Can you provide an example of a feedback survey?

A simple article feedback survey asks "Was this article helpful?" (yes / no), then "How would you rate it?" (1 to 5) and finally "What could we improve?" (optional comment).

  • Was this article helpful? - Yes / No
  • How clear was it? - Rating from 1 to 5
  • What could we improve? - Optional free text

Asklet includes an article feedback template and an NPS template so you can start from a working survey.

How to make a feedback survey?

Decide the one thing you want to learn, write one or two short questions about it, choose easy answer types such as yes / no or a rating, add an optional comment box, and show the survey where the experience happens.

  • Pick one goal per survey
  • Use quick answer types: yes / no, choice, rating or NPS
  • End with an optional free-text question
  • Show it in context - on the page, not days later
  • Review results regularly and change one thing at a time

What is the best tool to create feedback forms?

For long, standalone forms, a form builder is the best fit. For short feedback questions on many pages, an on-page widget such as Asklet is easier: one snippet, and path patterns choose the right survey for each page.

Form builders make you manage one form per embed and work out which page each answer came from. Asklet tracks the page path for you and reuses questions from a shared bank.
