Feedback survey questions: examples you can copy

Example questions for articles, docs, product screens and pricing pages, the NPS question, and how to write questions people answer.

What are good website feedback questions?

Good website feedback questions are short, ask about the page the visitor is on, and can be answered with one tap. Start with a yes / no or a rating, then offer an optional comment.

  • Did you find what you were looking for? - Yes / No
  • How easy was this page to use? - Rating from 1 to 5
  • What is missing from this page? - Optional free text

What questions should I ask readers after an article?

Ask whether the article was useful, then what to cover next. Put the questions at the end of the article, where readers have just finished it.

  • Was this article helpful? - Yes / No
  • How would you rate this article? - Rating from 1 to 5
  • What should we write about next? - Optional free text

What questions should I ask on a help or docs page?

Ask whether the page answered the question. The "no" answers and their comments show which pages to rewrite first.

  • Did this page answer your question? - Yes / No
  • What were you looking for? - Optional free text
  • How easy was this to follow? - Rating from 1 to 5

What questions should I ask about a product feature?

Ask on the screen where the feature is used, about that feature only. One rating plus a reason gives you more to act on than a long questionnaire.

  • How useful is this feature? - Rating from 1 to 5
  • What almost stopped you from finishing setup? - Optional free text
  • Is anything missing from this screen? - Optional free text

What questions should I ask customers for feedback?

Ask about one moment at a time: CSAT after a purchase or support chat, CES after a task such as setup or checkout, and NPS for the relationship as a whole. Follow each with an optional "why".

  • How satisfied were you with your order? - Rating from 1 to 5 (CSAT)
  • How easy was it to set up your account? - Scale from 1 to 7 (CES)
  • How satisfied were you with the help you got today? - Rating from 1 to 5 (CSAT)
  • What almost stopped you from ordering today? - Optional free text
  • How likely are you to recommend us to a friend or colleague? - 0 to 10 (NPS)
  • What is the main reason for your score? - Optional free text

As a template, pick one rating question from this list for the moment you care about, then add the free-text question after it. Asklet has rating, range and NPS question types, so you can build all three from the question bank.

What questions should I ask on a pricing or landing page?

Ask what is stopping visitors from signing up. Their own words show you the objections to answer on the page.

  • Is anything stopping you from signing up today? - Optional free text
  • How clear is our pricing? - Rating from 1 to 5
  • What would you like to know before you decide? - Optional free text

What is the NPS question?

The Net Promoter Score question is "How likely are you to recommend us to a friend or colleague?", answered on a scale from 0 to 10. It is usually followed by "What is the main reason for your score?"

Answers of 9 or 10 are promoters, 7 or 8 passives and 0 to 6 detractors. The score is the percentage of promoters minus the percentage of detractors.

Asklet has an NPS template with both questions.

How many questions should a feedback survey have?

For feedback on a page, one or two: a one-tap question first, then an optional comment. People on a page came to read, not to fill in a survey, so keep it short.

On the Asklet Free plan a survey can have up to 3 questions, which covers most page feedback.

What makes a bad survey question?

A bad survey question is vague, leading, asks two things at once, or asks for personal details the answer doesn't need.

  • Leading: "How much did you enjoy this article?" assumes they did
  • Double-barrelled: "Was this page clear and useful?" asks two things
  • Vague: "Any feedback?" gets vague answers
  • Personal: asking for a name or email makes answers less honest
