How to add Asklet to Zendesk help centre
Show Asklet on every Zendesk help centre article with one edit to article_page.hbs.
Steps
- 01
Copy your snippet
In Asklet, open your website and click Copy website snippet at the top.
- 02
Open your theme code
In Knowledge admin, click Customize design in the sidebar, click Customize on your theme, then Edit code.
- 03
Edit article_page.hbs
Under Templates, open article_page.hbs and paste the snippet after the element that holds {{article.body}} (example below). Click Save, then Preview.
- 04
Check it on your live site
Open a published article on a domain you listed in Asklet and answer the survey. To keep your own test answers out of the results, add the page in Asklet first: new pages start in test mode.
<iframe src="https://asklet.io/embed/s/<your-site>" title="Article feedback" width="100%" height="480" loading="lazy" referrerpolicy="unsafe-url" style="border:0"></iframe>- Keep referrerpolicy="unsafe-url" on the iframe - Asklet uses it to know which page the reader is on, so the right survey appears.
- Editing theme code needs Suite Growth or higher, or Knowledge Professional or Enterprise. It is not available on Suite Team.
- Once you edit its code, Zendesk treats the theme as a custom theme: it no longer gets new features and updates automatically.
- If your help centre runs on yourcompany.zendesk.com, use that address as the website's root domain in Asklet. With your own domain, such as help.example.com, list it as a subdomain of example.com.
Where the snippet goes
In Copenhagen, Zendesk's standard theme, the article text sits in a div with the class article-body. Paste the snippet right after it. Other themes print the article with the same {{article.body}} placeholder, so look for that. Use the src from your own snippet.
<div class="article-body">{{article.body}}</div>
<iframe src="https://asklet.io/embed/s/<your-site>" title="Article feedback" width="100%" height="480" loading="lazy" referrerpolicy="unsafe-url" style="border:0"></iframe> Zendesk's own vote buttons
Copenhagen already asks "Was this article helpful?" with up and down votes, in the article-votes block further down the template. If Asklet asks the same thing, readers see the question twice. Pick one of these:
- Replace the article-votes block with the snippet, so readers see one helpfulness question and your survey's next question can ask what was missing.
- Keep Zendesk's votes and give Asklet a survey that asks something else, such as what the reader was trying to do.
Different surveys for different articles
Article addresses look like /hc/en-us/articles/360012345678-Reset-your-password. They include the language but not the section, so:
- /hc/*/articles/* covers every article in every language.
- /hc/de/articles/* gives German articles their own survey.
- To give one section its own questions, add its articles as exact paths.
Troubleshooting
There is no Edit code button
Your plan may not include theme code editing (see the plans above), or your role may not let you manage the help centre theme. Ask a Zendesk admin.
Every article shows the default survey
Check that the iframe in article_page.hbs still has referrerpolicy="unsafe-url". Then use Test an address on the Pages tab in Asklet to check which page an article's path matches.
Common questions
Do I need a Zendesk Marketplace app?
No. The snippet is one iframe in your theme. There is nothing to install, and Asklet never sees your tickets or customer data.
Does it work on articles only signed-in users can see?
Yes. The widget shows to anyone who can open the article. It doesn't know who the reader is, so answers stay anonymous.
